What do we do at a Gathering?

We call it Almost Malibu because in 2019 the camp at which we held our Malibu retreats burned in one of the California fires. “Almost Malibu” holds the vision that we’ll return to that location when it is rebuilt.
Our current location a conference center which is secluded from the highway, full of trees, fresh air, and with great views of the surrounding mountains. Amenities include a heated swimming pool, heated dormitory-style cabins, modern restrooms and hot showers, and miles of hiking trails. The camp is in the forest far from the city lights, but only 88 miles east of Los Angeles and 60 miles north-west of Palm Springs.
The West Coast Gathering features a variety of workshops and seminars, mountain hiking, aerobics, volleyball, massage, playshops, and other activities, as if just being with over 300 friendly, naked men isn’t enough!
Among the most popular features of the annual Gatherings is the now famous, 88 degree swimming pool. The pool has proven a great place to swim or relax in the Southern California sun, meet new friends, and to enjoy several afternoon special events.
Also popular are the daily afternoon themed social hours. Just for fun, the social hour parties and evening events have a different theme each day. While nudity is still the overall rule, gathering attendees are encouraged (but not required) to wear accessories that correspond to the theme for the afternoon social hour and evening. The social hours are a great time to mingle with new and old friends.
The West Coast Gatherings feature at least two shows each evening, including game shows, talent shows, and special performances. The Miss CMEN Queen contest and the Mr. CMEN Leather contest, which determines CMEN’s candidate for International Mr. Leather (IML), highlight the gathering.
After the evening shows, activities include dancing with live DJ’s most nights, hanging out at the “Gathering Spot”, movies, cards, bingo and late night workshops.
2023 Session Options Announced:
You can register for several different session options, depending on your schedule. Options include:
- Full 7 Days — August 22-28
- Four day fun — August 24-27
- Extended Weekend — August 25-28
- Weekend — August 25-27
- 3, 4 and 5 day options also available
- Pre-gathering — August 21 (camp setup)
All food, accommodations, events, workshops, dances and parties are included.
The West Coast Gathering is a planned and produced by community of volunteers which reduces the price everyone pays to attend the Gathering. Volunteers also present the seminars and workshops, aerobics, massage, contests, game shows, and talent shows; others pitch in taking turns checking attendees in, leading hikes, setting up chairs, serving food at meals and social hours, serving ice cream or popcorn after shows, and other activities.
Options and prices will be available on the registration form which will be posted soon. There’s going to be a good crowd at this event, and you’ll want to register early, previous fall events have sold out. Don’t be left out! There will be no registration at the site, and all men must be at least 21 years old to attend this event.

The annual West Coast Gatherings are hosted by CMEN, an international social organization for gay and bisexual men who enjoy nude social and recreational activities.

In 2019 CMEN’s West Coast Gathering moved to our current home in the San Bernardino Mountains, just South of Big Bear, following the November 2018 fire which devastated 96,949 acres in the Malibu area including the conference center we had called our home for the past 20 years.
Note: This Gathering involves participation in activities at an elevation over 7000 feet. It is recommended you consult you physician regarding any health concerns prior to attending.
Getting to the West Coast Gathering:
If you are flying into Ontario International Airport or Los Angeles International Airport, bus service to the West Coast Gathering is available. If you are driving, sharing a ride both saves money and is good for the environment.
Workshops:
The West Coast Gathering features a variety of workshops and activities offering attendees the opportunity for education, personal growth, exploration and fun. CMEN is looking for volunteers to present workshops at the West Coast Gathering this year. Help make the Gathering even more fabulous by creating a workshop…playshop…or activity to share with others!
